By using Winterwood you agree to these terms. They are short on purpose.
Winterwood suggests which tree you are looking at, from a photograph or by walking a step-by-step key, and gives growing advice for cultivated species. The species guide, the key and the growing advice work offline. Photo identification needs a connection and is metered.
Trees vary, photographs lose detail, and models are wrong sometimes. Winterwood shows a confidence figure and the characters it read precisely because the answer is not certain. Do not rely on it for any decision where being wrong matters — felling, spraying, planting at scale, legal or professional advice.
Winterwood does not provide edibility, foraging, medicinal or safety information, and the model is instructed never to. An identification from a photograph is not a safe basis for eating any part of a plant, and some lookalikes are seriously poisonous. If you are considering consuming anything, consult a qualified expert with the plant in hand.
Payment is charged to your Apple ID at confirmation of purchase. Subscriptions renew automatically unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours of the end of the current period. You can manage or cancel your subscription in your Apple ID settings; deleting the app does not cancel it. Refunds are handled by Apple under their policy, not by us.
Do not attempt to bypass the identification limits, extract or reuse our keys, automate requests, or resell access to the service. Each identification costs us real money, and these limits are what keep the free tier possible.
Your photographs and notes are yours. They stay on your device; we do not claim any rights over them. Photographs sent for identification are passed to our AI provider for that request only — see the Privacy Policy.
The species photographs bundled with the app come from Wikimedia Commons under free licences (CC0, public domain, CC BY or CC BY-SA). Every photograph credits its photographer and licence in Settings → See the credits. Those images remain under their own licences.
Photo identification depends on third-party providers and may be unavailable or interrupted. The offline half of the app — the key, the guide, your finds — is designed to keep working when it is.
Winterwood is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind. To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss arising from use of the app or reliance on an identification. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
These terms may change. The date at the top changes with them, and continued use after a change means acceptance.
